Educational Resources
The temple provides several resources for learning:- Vidya Mandir (Sunday School) is a temple sponsored, volunteer-run Sunday school to promote languages, culture, and music of India, and the Hindu and Jain religious values to children residing in the tri-state area.
- Dance Classes are offered at the temple on Sundays.
- Youth Camp is a temple sponsored camp to bring youth together to learn about our language and culture with many social activities.
- Lectures and Study Groups are held on religious and academic topics with guidance from knowledgeable volunteers.
- Scholarship is awarded annually on a competitive basis to a graduating senior planning to attend college.
- Library is located at the temple and has numerous religious books and some are available online to members.
Scholarship
The Hindu Jain Temple awards a Scholarship annually for
graduating seniors. Selection is based on scholastic
achievements, extra curricular activities and community service. To be
eligible for scholarship, temple membership is required. Scholarship
Committee accepts applications from Graduating Seniors to presents awards
during the Annual Diwali Dinner.
Those interested in applying should the student's resume, grades,
SAT scores, recommendation letters, and a short essay describing involvement in
temple activities and how they have made a difference in their life.
Please submit the required information to the temple office,
indicating Scholarship Application by the annual due date (watch for the date
on the Temple Calendar).
Dance Classes
The folowing dance classes are held on Sundays:- Bharat Natyam 12:30 pm - 4:00 pm
- Kathak Dance 9:00 am - 1:00 pm
Camp
Hindu Jain Temple Youth Camp
Every
summer, the Hindu Jain Temple conducts a youth camp for the children ranging
from ages 9 through 16. This week-long camp starts on a summer Sunday and
concludes the following Saturday noon.
It is an excellent experience for them
to gain knowledge of the Hindu culture and make lasting friendships. The Youth
Camp lets children experience bhajans in the morning and evening, yoga, sports
activities, religious lectures, intriguing debates, campfires, and fun and
games. The food at camp is praised by all who have eaten it. At camp, your
child will never be hungry. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, and afternoon and bedtime
snacks are provided daily. Meals include a variety of cuisines including pasta,
enchiladas, tacos, and traditional Indian meals. All food is pure vegetarian, meaning
no eggs.
During the camp, campers are under the
guidance and direction of the Camp Director, Adult Volunteers, and Camp
Counselors.
The
Hindu Jain Temple Youth Camp will be one of the best experiences of your
child’s life.

- Nurture Hindu-Jain spiritual values and the cultural heritage of India.
- Provide opportunity to the campers to explore aspects of Hinduism, Jainism, Indian history, and culture.
- Provide opportunity for developing leadership skills, team building, and camaraderie among campers through various cultural, religious, craft and athletic programs.
The Chitragupta Library
The library is located in the main temple and open during normal temple hours. The library has books, CDs, and DVDs on religion. In addition, the library has several computers with literature on Hinduism, Jainism and other religions.Online library from website

From the airport exit follow signs towards Pittsburgh. After traveling for about 20 miles, go through Fort Pitt tunnel. Stay at the right and take exit towards parkway 376 East /Monroeville/Murrysville. Stay on Parkway for about 15 miles following signs for Monroeville/Murrysville. Take last exit to Murrysville (on left) to Route 22 east At third light, turn left on Elliot Road. Take first right (after ½ mile) on Illini Drive. Go 2/10th of a mile up hill on Illini and make left turn into temple driveway. Continue up driveway to parking lot. |

From McCully Dr turn left on to Thompson Run Rd. Go ¼ mile and as passing the small bridge, turn right on to Old William Penn Hwy. Immediately pass through an over bridge and continue for about 5 miles (you will pass 5 stop signs and two traffic lights). At the second light make a left on to Rt. 22 East (William Penn Hwy.). Next light make a left on to Elliot Rd. Take first right (after ½ mile) on Illini Drive. Go 2/10th of a mile up hill on Illini and make left turn into temple driveway. Continue up driveway to parking lot. |

From the temple driveway turn left on to Abers Creek Rd. Go about ½ mile towards the next main street and turn right on to Northern Pike( sign may not be there). Road makes a sharp left. Stay on the left and turn on to RT 22 West and towards Parkway 376 West. Go about ½ mile and turn right on to Elliot Rd(Levin Furniture on the right) Go 2/10th of a mile up hill on Illini and make left turn into temple driveway. Continue up driveway to parking lot. |
