MISSION
Shiva Vishnu temple of South Florida is a non-profit religious organization registered in 1993 in the state of Florida. The goal of the organization is to have a traditional Hindu temple based on Vaasthu and Agama Shaastras and to impart religious, educational and cultural values of Hindu Dharma to our community and future generations.
HISTORY
In 1996 we embarked upon building a traditional Dravidian (South Indian) style temple under the guidance of chief architect Dr. Ganapati Sthapati of Chennai India, a well-known temple builder of international repute. After obtaining the proper permits the construction began in April 1999. Twelve shilpis from Mahabalipuram, India arrived in April 2000 to start Indianization of the temple.

The temple complex has two new buildings. The front building is the traditional temple building with two Raja Gopurams (entrance towers) and two Vimana Gopurams (towers) over each of the main Shiva and Vishnu Garbagrahas ( Shrines). The total area of the temple is approximately 6200 Sq Feet. The temple's architectural style belongs to Chola, and Pallava dynasty period (10th century) for Shiva and Parivar shrines, and Vijayanagara dynasty period (12th century) for Venkateshwara and Parivar shrines. The Ayyappa shrine is built according to the Kerala style of architecture.

The second building in the back is the community hall, which was inaugurated in April of 2001. It has a seating capacity for 300 people and is available for rent for weddings, various celebrations and cultural activities.
Mahakumbhabhishekam and Pranaprathishtapana of our new temple was celebrated during November 23 to 25 of 2001 and is now open to the public. We have four well-trained priests from India conducting daily services in the tradition of Shiva Agama and Pancharathra Agama.
The temple is located in Broward County, which is located in South Florida.

Our temple is a unique temple, where we have two Rajagopurams, representing separate entrance to Shiva and Vishnu shrines. There is hand full of temples with this feature in the whole world. Rajagopuram means kingly tower entrance. The peak of each Gopuram is decorated with seven copper kalashas with pointed ends reaching the heavens. The Gopurams are traditional structures designed according to Vaasthu Shaastras. Each tower has three tiers (levels) with rich ornaments and motifs. The Gopurams follow the same type of architectures noted in the shrines inside. The height of each tower is 38feet from the ground level. The entrance is decorated with beautifully carved teak doors with brass bells. The central entrance is decorated with shilabalakies on both sides and Harihara on the top. The central door is made of carved teak with brass bells.
Shiva Rajagopuram
Shiva Rajagopuram is built according to the Chola period architecture (10th century). Each of the tiers has a pair of Dwara Palakas (entrance guards) at each level. The topmost tier has Nandi at each corner. Ganapathi and Subramanya icons are carved at the top level facing east. The southern face of the Rajagopuram has statues of Dakshinamoorthy at each level in various forms. The northern face has statues of Brahma at each level. Exclusive floral designs, Makaras and Nasikas are carved throughout all faces of the towers.
Vishnu Rajagopuram
Vishnu Rajagopuram is built according to the Vijayanagara period architecture (12th century). Each of the tiers has a pair of Dwara Palakas (entrance guards) at each level. The topmost tier has Garuda at each corner. Standing Garuda and Hanuman icons are carved at the top level facing east. The southern face of the rajagopuram has statues of Narasimha Swamy at each level in various forms. The northern face has statues of Varaha Swamy at each level. Exclusive floral designs, Makaras and Nasikas are carved throughout all faces of the towers.

These past three months have gone by fairly rapidly. We had very interesting events, such as Mother’s Day and “Bala Spardha." Thank you to all the board members and volunteers for their untiring efforts in making these events so successful. As happy as I am about the events happened in the past quarter, I am more excited about the next three months, which will be leading up to the main event of the year: Mahakumbabhisheka. It will start with Life Member Appreciation Dinner on Saturday July 13th, 2013 followed by “Fund Raising Banquet” on September 14th 2013 at the Bonaventure Town Center club in Weston, Florida. The hall can seat up to three hundred fifty (350) seats, and we are aiming to fill all the seats. Considering that there are over 800 families within the three counties, I am predicting that the 350 tickets will be swapped up pretty quickly. Please contact the temple to reserve your tickets ASAP. All it takes is an email to banquet@sfshivavishnu.org and under subject, please type in “I need XX tickets to Banquet."
We have reached out to local associations to come up programming. We have allocated approximately sixty minutes for programs by associations. If you are interested in participating in programs, please contact the President of Telegu Sanga, Tamil Sanga or Kannada Koota. After the dinner, we will have “ACE DJ” spinning some gyrating numbers to test your dancing skills on the dance floor. We are going to have a very good time and also raise funds for the Temple’s Mahakumbabhisheka. So ladies and gentlemen, please mark your calendars and start buying/importing party dresses from India to showcase it on Saturday September 14th, 2013.
I am also pleased to say that the paperwork for getting our fourth priest from India is in progress. The board, after consultation with experts, has already selected a suitable priest and if visa formalities are completed, we should be expecting the arrival of the priest in June-July of this year.
Mahakumbabhisheka-related planning activities are picking up very well. Our first Kick-Off meeting for the event went well on May 19th 2013. We will be soliciting your help to staff various committees like religious, fund raising, food and cultural. Temple's management is budgeting about $350,000 for the event to be held from November 29th through Dec 1st of this year. We are expecting a large turnout for this historic event, which is held once in twelve years. So please come forward and extend a helping hand to make the event a grand success. An hour of your time and a dollar makes a significant difference to the outcome of this event. As South Florida is blessed with wonderful weather during Thanksgiving time, it is an opportunity for you to invite your loved ones from India and other parts of the US to partake in the event and also make it as a family reunion weekend. Until the next Vedavani, Good Bye.
