BRIEF HISTORY OF INSTITUTES (VEDIC SCHOOLS)

1.    In 1995 a humble beginning was made in S. Thimmapuram village Kirlampudi Mandalam, East Godavari District (maternal village of Panduranga Rao Malyala, 3rd son of Venkatachalapathi was delivered by his mother Smt. Pullammagaru (Praphulla –name of Parvati)on Friday May 23rd, 1941 at 10:05AM (Vrishabha Nama Samvatsara, vaishaka Bahula Trayodasi Sukravaram Aswini Nakshatra Truteeya Pada Mesha Raasi, Karkataka Lagnam).  It began with one Acharya of Krishna Yajur Veda in his own house with very few students. The progress was very slow.

2.    On April 24, 1996 the school was moved to 12 Bhaskar nagar Kakinada (house of Mahalakshmi and Panduranga Rao Malyala).  Kakinada is a district headquarters. (Dhatrunama Samvatsara Vaishaka Suddha Chathurthi Bhanuvora Rohini Nakshatra Midhuna Lagnam). Again the Institute had one Acharya, Sri Sankara Sarma Savitala teaching Krishna Yajur Veda with 6 students and with a budget of Rs 5000/month.

3.    In 2000- August due to increase of students the building was renovated. Acharyas for all the four Vedas, a manager, a cook, an administrator, warden, cleaner, etc., were appointed. The school started with 25 students and the budget was Rs 50,000/month.

4.    By Divine command of Sai Baba in Nov 2001 a 5 acres mango grove was purchased in the village of Ganganapally, a suburb of Kakinada. The school was moved to a rented house of Late Sri Rao Gopal Rao on Dec 5th 2001 which was close to the proposed mango grove. The building for school (64’ by 64’), dining hall, kitchen and staff quarters (84’ by 64’) and a guest house of Sarvato Bhadra Mandalam Shape were constructed.

5.    The school was opened on August 23rd 2002 with 6 teachers, an administrator, cook, warden, gardener, security guard with 64 students. It is running with a monthly budget of 1,00,000 Rs/month and increased to Rs 125,000

6.    By grace of Sai Baba construction of another school was started on Friday Jan 30, 2004 at Puttparthy.  An 84’ by 84’ school building, Yagna Saala (64’ by 24’), Pakashala (108’ by 24’-Kitche, dining and store), Higher Learning Institute (64’ by 64’) with  7 Kuteers, staff quarters, Gosala and Administrative building were constructed. The school was formally inaugurated on March 4rd, 2004 at Sri R.V. Janakiranayya Kalyana Mandapam at 9:34AM.  Indeed the Patasala was inaugurated by Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba on January 15,2004-Makara Sankranti and Mahalakshmi and Panduranga Rao Malyala blessed by Bhagavan in the morning around 10 A.M.

7.   On Feb 17th, 2005 the Institute was begun with 3 Acharyas RG Veda, Krishna Yajur Veda,      Smartham with 9 students, Administrator, Cook, Gardener, and a monthly budget of Rs.50, 000. Later Sama vedam Acharya added. There were 43 students. Then we have also a Nadaswara and Drum Acharayas with 20 students were also joined. Later due to Divine will the strength fallen.  Currently there about 25 students and 2 Acharyas. We hope this will increase to 5o or more in 2011 and efforts and prayers are being to expand the students and and Acharyas. Expecting students from Paunjab, Assam and Orissa with 10 students from each place and 3 more Acharyas.

8.In January 14-2007 another school is started at Katra –Vaishnavi Devi Mandir foot hills-Jammu kKashmir with 7 students and one pundit from Dehradun -as per Divine Command and with lot of Grace and mysterious circumstances 1008 blankets were distributed and annadanam was rendered in 2006 December.  This school is opened after continuous prayers from 1979 . Currently there are 25 students, one Achraya, from Vaaranaasi,  cook, cleaning person running  in a rented place. Sukla Yajurveda of Maadhyandini Saakha (branch) which is prevalent in North India is being imparted. The monthly budget is Rs 36,000

9. Again by Divine Command of Baba another school in Gangtok –Sikkim started on January 14th 2008 with few students .Currently there 12 students and one Acharya. The school is in a rented place and the monthly budget is Rs 24,000. Sukla Yajurveda is being imparted.

10. Again by Divine Command another school in Srinagar-Jammu Kashmir started in October 2009 with 10 students and one Pundit. There were 5 lakh Kashmiri pundits in 1989. After militacy there are about 5000 now. But there is a great potency to have more students and protect our ancient Saivism of Bharateeya Culture and wealth.

11.Recently Sai Baba gave a command to start in Tawang –Arunachala Pradesh. We don’t know how to proceed which is the very border of Tibet. Of course there flight from Delhi-Gauhati-Tawang. It is strong military and Buddhist monestry is there . Financial assistance is needed. Once Bhagavan Baba cured a Swamy from Arunachala Pradesh when visited Puttaparthy with cancer. Also gave the yantras for Soorya and Chandra (Sun and Moon) temples to construct  since the people of Arunachala Pradesh worship Sun and the Moon.

If this school comes into existence the borders will be safe and culture will be in tact.(See the Tapovanam-parayana grandham-of Sri Sathya Sai Sathcharitra –Sacred Life story of Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba byJandhyala Venkateswara Sastry-Published in almost all Indian languages.

Note:1. The very first school started In Tirupati in 1981 with 10 students of Sukla Yajurveda and the Pundit was    Appannavadhanulu Pedasanaganti,  native of Rampa Yerrampalem village near Rajahmundry  East Godvari District-Andhra pradesh     The monthly budget was low and we used to send the money every month of about $ 108.00. All those students were graduated and well settled in various temples in Andhra Pradesh as a Paarayana Pundits.

2.Next the Vedic school  started in Prattipady village with 5 students and one Pundit in his house –Kirlampudi mandalam very close to S.Thimmapuram, the birth place of Saint Panduranga Rao Malyala in January 1990. The budget was Rs 500 per month plus sundries.      Later the school was moved to S.Thimmapuram.

My Life Is My Message: Vedam-Yagnam - Annadanam
                                                                   -Saint  Sri Panduranga Malyala

Dear Embodiments of Divine Love: May Sai Baba shower His Galloping Grace upon all us who graciously donated, supported and contributed to Sri Shirdi Sai Baba Temple - Pittsburgh for the past 20 years both in donations and services.
By the Grace and Command of Sai Baba we are rendering Universal Peace Yagnas from 1990 in India and USA. The goals are Peace and Bliss for all beings through Spiritual enlightenment. The means are Vedas, Yagnas and Annadanam(feed the hungry and needy).

Vedam:
6 Veda Patasaalas -Kakinada, Puttaparthy in Andhra Pradesh, Katra and Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir, Gangtok-Sikkim and Tawang-Arunachala Pradesh.

Veda Paatasaala Puttaparthy: Sai Baba gave a message on Friday May 6th, 2011 to enhance the functioning of the Veda paatsala in Puttaparthy since His main aim of Avatar is Veda uddarana. We need students for Puttaparthy Veda paatasaal about 150 of Brahmin boys after Upanayanam from all over India and world. BABA PROMISED HE WILL TAKE CARE OF 21 GENERATIONS OF THE DEVOTEES FUTURE AND PAST WHO WILL HELP IN HIS MISSION. Therefore we request our loving devotees to find students from their native villages and towns.

Tawang- Arunachala Pradesh :
Tawang Vedapatasala: Mr Lobsang son of Sri Yeshi phuntso near veterinary dispensary Tawang.
A sizeable population of 20,000 live in Tawang town. The dominant ethnic group are the Monpa, who inhabit 162 out of 163 villages. The Tibetans are also found in small scattered numbers throughout Tawang, but their main concentration is in the village of Shyo, which houses about 90 Tibetan families. The Takpa, a small tribal group, are found in small, scattered numbers in the West and the North. Most of the people the Monpa, Takpa and the Tibetans, are Tibetan Buddhists by religion. Pre-Buddhist Bön and Shamanist influence is also evident. Festivals like Losar, Choskar, Torgya are held annually. The Dungyur is also celebrated in every three years of the Torgya. Both the Dungyur and Torgya festivals are celebrated at the premises of the Tawang Monastery with traditional gaiety and enthusiasm.

Annadanam: Feeding the hungry is the greatest gift of all gifts. Lacs of needy people have been fed during the past 20 years. Vastra danam (Clothes) were also distributed to the needy over the years.
By the Grace of Baba we got permission to ship clothes to India through Shipping Corporation of India from Prime minister of India Rajiv Gandhi. We also sent many clothes and distributed and now it has been abandoned since it is cheaper to buy new clothes and distribute in India.
Feed the hungry program is being continued from January 2011. So far about 25,000 meals have been served. In Puttaparthy everyday about 200 people are being fed. Also Akhanda Nama saptaham will be rendered in Hanumaan Temple, Puttaparthy from June 1st to 7th. About 2 to 3 thousands will be served on 7th June-2011. My Life is my Message-Vedam-Yagnam-Annadanam
COW IS THE UNIVERSAL MOTHER-(GAAVAH VISWASSYA MAATARAH)

-Saint Sri Panduranga Malyala

Gava mangeshu tishnti bhuvanani chaturdasa.

All the 14 worlds reside in cow (Sruti-Vedam).
Cow is the chief source of nourishment of every being.

Vedam:

All beings in the entire universe depend on food. Food comes from rain. Rain comes from Yagna. Yagnas are rendered with Veda mantras and cows ghee.Through their tapascharya ascetism, pravrutti Cognition and Dyana Mediatation, the ancient seers of India established harmony between physical sciences and the Vedic inscriptions.
The present day educated people of India exhibit a stand-offish attitude to Vedic pronouncements. They opine that these theories were not arrived through experimentation but only by cognition. But, now the western scientists are coming into grips with the vitality of the Vedic sciences.

Why Cow protection ?
When the bull and cow are in a joyous mood, it can be construed that the people of the world are also in joyful mood. The human society must, therefore, protect these two most precious animals so they can wander about with no worries and with all cheer.

COW IN VEDAS: In the Vedas, Cow is called Aditi, Dhenuvu, Aghnaaya etc.
Cow is refered in the Rg Veda 723 times, in Yajurveda 87 times, In Sama Veda 170 times, in Athrava Veda 331 times-total 1331 times. Similarly 20 times in Rg Veda, 5 times in Yajurveda, 2 times in Sama veda and 33 times in Athrava veda the word
Aghnaaya specifically addressed to cow. "Dhenu" is used 76 times in Rg Veda, 22 times in Yajurveda, 25 times in Sama Veda, 43 times in Atharva Veda. The meaning of Dhenu is which gives Trupti (Contentment and satisfaction).

Kaama Dhenuvu -Cow is wish fulfilling sacred animal:
There many uses of cow-1.Milk 2.Cream3.Yogurt 4.Butter 5.Ghee 6.Residue after making yogurt, and 7. residue of the ghee (like crystals)they are called as Godavari 8. Butter milk 9.Cow urine as purifier and medicinal uses 10.Cow dung is scientifically proven to be anti-biotic, anti- nuclear radiation and anti-septic. Manure is used as fertilizer 11.Cow horns are being used in manufacturing combs 12. Cow skin for manufacturing of shoes 13.Cow manure is used for Yagnas like Putra Kaameshti, Varshesti(Varsha Yagna) 14. The cow manure is used in preparing gober gas15.The air pollution will be controlled by the smoke of the yagnas when cow dung cakes are being used in the fire.16. Many sweets and milk products. So every part of the cow’s body is being used for the welfare of the mankind. She is soft and revered animal. They are like our kids and friends. Wherever she is tied she will stay, wherever we send she will go. We have to protect them from cruelty.

Personal Experience : When I was about 10 years old, one day the care taker of cows did not show up. So my father advised me to clean the gosala(Cow shed) and pick up the cow manure. My ego popped up that I was studying English, why should I clean the cow shed?
Then my father revealed that the Mahalakshmi (Goddess of wealth) is lives in cow manure and cow urine. Therefore I should not hesitate to clean and serve the cows. I understood his point and cleaned the cow shed joyfully and removed the cow manure to a stacking place.

Legend: Cow manure and Goddess Lakshmi Devi : Maha Bharatam-Anusasanika Parvam
83rd Adhyaya (Kaama Dhenuvu)-written by Veda Vyasa

Cow is superior than Goddess of Wealth

Once Goddess Mahalakshmi visited the cows. They bowed before her, and asked, "Please let us know who are you? Why did you come here?" The Goddess said, "I am Sridevi Goddess of Wealth. I want to live with you." The Cows said, "You are not stable; so, we do not want you to mingle with us." Goddess Lakshmi felt ashamed and said, "My dear cows! Devatas do penance to me. When I was not with them, the demons annihilated them. The success of Devatas is only due to me. I came here on my own free will. Is it fair to insult me?" Cows refused to recognize Her presence; they said it was not meant to be an insult that they did not accept Her. Goddess Lakshmi said that if the cows refuse Her, nobody would accept Her. She surrendered to the cows absolutely. Then cows said, " O! Lakshmidevi! You are a resplendent diamond among all women. Our manure and urine are very pure. Vedas also confirm it. So, Kindly stay in them and provide joy to us." Goddess Mahalakshmi accepted the offer. Urine and manure of a cow are the purest things.

Pancha gavyam: Mixture of cow’s milk, yogurt, ghee, urine, manure and kusa(Grass) water, chanting Narayana Suktam will cleanse the body, mind, intellect, bones, and souls. Certain type of sins can be emancipated by Pancha gavya only. In the Yagnas, devotees take Pancha gavya everyday before beginning of the Yagna, for cleansing.

Legislation prohibiting Cow slaughter: Agricultural and milk products are the main ingredients for human existence. Balarama and Krishna took charge of these two. Balarama took the plough and Krishna earned the title Gopala ( protector of cows). Krishna killed the king Kamsa because Kamsa encouraged the cow slaughter.

Vedas, Ayurvedic texts of Charaka, Sushruta and Salihotra, Manusmriti, Bhrihat-samhita, Agni Purana and Vishnu Dharmottara puranas discussed extensively cattle science and animal husbandary. Since Vedic times, we loved cattle, reared ,loved worshipped them. Cattle wealth is considered to be a sign of prosperity in Bharat.

From ancient times non-violence is considered as most precious virtue and animals and cow were protected by various dynasties of Inca, Maya, Aztec, Kuru etc. till Muslim invasion. Emperor Ashoka constructed many animal hospitals, shelters and nourished the cows and animals.

Babar wrote a letter to Humayun , substance of which was : "Let us thank God. My dear son! In our Bharat many people with different dharmas co-exist. God gave power to rule them. Do not succumb to lower nature and respect all faiths and mainly protect Cows (Go) and see that the cows are not slaughtered. If you follow this rule you will be loved by Hindus. Do not destroy the temples and worship places". Humayun respected his father’s words and ruled.

Akhbar in 1586 A.D. consulted the then Moulvees and enacted the Law prohibiting cow slaughter. The copy of this enactment is still safe in the Gwalior sansthanam (library). One can try to retrieve it and if any one helps us in this endeavor, Baba will bless him/her.

The substance of the Law is :
"All animals are useful and the whole society profits with His creation. Out of all, cows are most useful and beneficial. Humans and animals live on food (grains and other products). For these, oxen (children of cows) are needed to plough the land. There are many benefits from cows. For all human and animal existence cows are the real source.
Therefore cow slaughter is prohibited in my kingdom. If anybody violates this law their fingers will be chopped and also be hanged.

Jehangir and Shah jahan respected this law. Aurangajeb became a fanatic and violated this law and slaughtered cows openly.

Chatrapathi Sivaji killed a person who was selling cow meat (Beef). By the grace of Saint Samarth Ramadas he established a Maratha kingdom.

During the English rule cow slaughter was rampant . The bullets were covered with cow fat . In 1857 there was a brahmin boy by name
Mangal Pandey in the British Army. He was passing thro’ a village and was thristy. He saw lady drawing water from a well and asked for water. Then she said my brother! The smell of cow fat emanating from your mouth and hands. Shall I make my water impure by giving the water to you? These words pierced boy’s heart. These words finally made him to revolt against the British. In 1857 first bullet against the British was fired. In conclusion the independence movement of Bharat started from the Cow Protection.

In 1191
Mohammad Ghori came to invade from Iran with 25,000 army of horsemen. When they were going towards Delhi-just 4000 Rajput army (devotees and worshippers of cow) stopped them for 3 months at Bhatinda durga. In the mean time the Delhi emperor Pruthviraj Chowhan prepared the big army and joined the Chitodghad Maharana Samara Simha army. Great war took place at Dhaneswar on the banks of Saraswati river . Mohammad Ghori was taken as a prisoner to Delhi. Then Pruthviraj asked Mohammad Ghori how we have to treat you? Then Mohammad Ghori replied with folded hands and shame with looking down said treat me as a cow and forgive me. Then Maharana Samara Simha questioned with surprise are you a cow? Then Pruthviraj with compassion said "you are forgiven since you said that you are a cow." Since Hindus (Bharateeyas will not harm a cow). But unfortunately he repeated 17times for invasion.

According to Bhagavadgeeta that inadvertent compassion is wrong and now the country is suffering and cows are being slaughtered mercilessly.

Even after this incident Maharana Ranajit Singh, Maharani Sindhia etc... in their treaties with British made a rule that English army men who eat beef and kill the cows shall be removed from army. As time passes the devotion , protection and respect to cows is declining.

After independence during Congress rule cow slaughter became a business and due to this negligence the country is suffering with sorrow, disease and pains. Not only for beef but also for skin of cows for army shoes recently many cows are being slaughtered.

Most of the mental retardation and depression are due to eating of beef in the world.

Recently Gujarat Chief minister Sri Narendra Modi enacted a legislation prohibiting cow slaugter in that state.

Conclusion: Every Bharateeya shall stop eating beef and encourage others NOT to eat beef. Recently many thanked me for advising them not to eat meat and said they lost lot of weight on that count. Also make every effort to support legislation prohibiting the cow slaughter in Bharat.
Everybody shall make effort to poster cows and nourish them in their own villages in India. Also provide cow feeding shelters. This is equivelent to Aswamedha yagna according Vedas.(Go rakshana saalas).

Yajnas/Homams (Mantras with Agni or fire)

Yajnas are conducted to achieve specific benefits - good health, prosperity, pleasant conjugal relationship and so on. When these benefits accrue, the individual realizes their transitory nature and then seeks the true wealth - consummation with the Almighty. Properly performed, yajnas result in satiation of sense pleasures. They also help the beneficiary to realize the transient nature of sense pleasures, thus preparing him to evolve spiritually and seek lasting joy which is his birthright. Then he is ready to elevate himself to a a plane of existence when the only longing that remains is to subsume the jivatma (the divine within) into brahman (the Ultimate Reality) and lose individual identiry by conjoining the brahman, never to be born again, never be involved in karma (action) and its consequences but remain in a state of everlasting bliss.

Significance of yajnas: The Hindu scriptures say that the physical body is living on borrowed time, borrowed from the five elements of space, air, fire, water, and earth. When this debt is fully settled, air mixes with air, fire with fire an so forth, and the five elements return to their abodes. Being caught up in the cycle of samsara of births and deaths is real sorow. Breaking the cycle and getting liberated from it is everlasting bliss. The rest is illusion. Knowing of the soul or self-realization is the supreme among all sciences. Every yajnam has a great unseen influence on all living things, for these mantras are potent sabdas (sounds) charged with subtle mysteries. The benefits are manifold: peace, prosperity, happiness, good health and longevity, progeny, courage, enthusiasm, spiritual cultivation and so on. Energy alone is eternal and the Yajnas are an eternal science. The ancient sages of India had precise knowledge of transferability of mass and energy. Sage Agastya composed Sakti Tantra (Treatise on Energy) consisting of eight chapters on the Sun, Moon, Air, Fire, Water, etc. Briefly, the method of energy conversion is: Construct a fire altar cubicle, the details of which are exlained in Sata Patha Brahmana. By burning specific organic substances, an atmosphere of peace is created which helps remove stress and tensoin. When ghee (clarified butter) is offered in the fire with appropriate mantras (ultra sound), energy will be released at lightning speed into the universe. When a farmer sows a bagful of grains, he does not waste it. In fact, he reaps many a bag of grains in return. Likewise, the notion that offering ghee, sandalwood and grains at the fire altar is a waste of materials is incorrect. The output of a Yajnam cannot be measured in conventional terms. Yajnas cleanse the consciousness and turn our attention to spiritual development and self-realization.

All of the yajnas mentioned are performed for the benefit of the sponsors. Through the process of sankalpam, the actual performer of the yajnam effectively steps into the shoes of the sponsor. The sponsorship for any specific yajnam is $126, and if the same yajnam is to be conducted continuously for seven days, the donation is $504. When the sponsor cannot be present , he/she is an acitive participant of the yajnam,if they can do the foll: Distribute food to the needy or give to a shelter. Feed the birds with birdseed. Distribute candy to children. Offer clothing to a man, woman or child who needs it; if possible, color of the dress should match that which is appropriate for the yajnam sponsored by you (Planet-color of dress: Sun-red; Moon-white; Mars-Red; Mercury-green; Jupiter-gold; Venus-white; Saturn-blue or black; Ketu-multicolor; Rahu-blue.). Or you may also donate the clothing to a shelter.

Contact temple 412-374-9244 to sponsor yagna.

Sankatahara Chaturthi – Abhishekam

Significance  of Sankatahara  Chaturthi:   Each lunar month in  Hindu calendar has two Chaturthi Tithis. The one after Purnima or full moon during Krishna Paksha is known as Sankashti Chaturthi and the one  after  Amavasya or new moon during Shukla Paksha is known as Vinayaka Chaturthi.
Sankata Chaturthi fasting  is done every month. If Sankatahara Chaturthi falls on  Tuesday it is  called Angarki Chaturthi and it is considered highly auspicious.  Devotees of Lord Ganesha keep fast from sunrise to moonrise. Sankatahara means  deliverance during troubled times. Lord Ganesha, the supreme  lord of  intelligence, symbolizes the remover of all obstacles. Hence  it is believed  that one can get rid of all obstacles by  observing.   The fast is supposed to be strict and only fruit, roots (the part of a plant which is below ground) and vegetable products are supposed to be consumed.  The staple Indian diet on Sankashti Chaturthi includes Sabudana Khichadi,  potato and peanuts. Devotees break the fast at night after sighting of the  moon.
Puja Samagri: Milk, Yogurt, Honey, Ghee, Sugar,  Flowers, Coconut, betel leaves and nuts, Chandan powder, Camphor, Dhoop, Sugar candy(Mishri), Sugar cane, Poha.
