We host regular Devotional Programs and Service Activities all year round. Our calendar below lists upcoming events where you can stay informed about programs our Center hosts.
Devotional Programs are held every Thursday and typically include a presentation followed by devotional singing and prayers. We hold these programs at the Madison Avenue Baptist Church from 6:30 PM - 8:15 PM.
Service Activities are hosted in conjunction with other Sai Centers in the New York City area and include Hospital visits and distribution of food.
The purpose of a Sai Center is to provide a meeting place for studying and practicing the teachings of Sathya Sai Baba and to provide information about Him to the public. The Center is a focal point for individuals who are striving to lead disciplined spiritual lives and who want to devote a significant portion of their time and energy each week to performing acts of selfless service to the needy and the distressed.
We are very pleased to have you as our guest and hope you will visit us again. For more information please contact us.

Sathya Sai Baba

Born on November 23, 1926, for over 80 years, Sathya Sai Baba instigated and inspired global activities for the uplift of all humanity.
He is lovingly referred to as Swami, Sai Baba or Bhagavan by His followers. His vision and selfless service in the fields of Education, Health and Rural Village service and improvement have been pursued right from the inception of his mission. They are unique and targeted towards transparent results.
These activities are based on and reflect the universal principles of Truth, Righteousness, Love, Peace and Non-violence. Baba names these as universal Human Values and affirms Duty is God and Work is Worship, Love All, Serve All, and Help Ever, Hurt Never. The true religion of mankind is the "Religion of Love".
I have come to light the lamp of love in your hearts, to see that it shines day by day with added luster. I have not come to speak on behalf of any particular [religion]... I have not come on any mission of publicity for any sect or creed or cause; nor have I come to collect followers for any doctrine. I have no plan to attract disciples or devotees into my fold or any fold. I have come to tell you of this universal unitary faith, this [divine soul] principle, this path of love, this... duty of love, this obligation to love. -- Sathya Sai Baba (Sathya Sai Speaks, vol. 8, no. 22)

 Teachings of Sathya Sai Baba

Sathya Sai Baba did not come to found a new religion or philosophy. He came to show all humanity the foundation love has in every life, indeed all life. In the words of Sathya Sai Baba:
“ I have come not to disturb or destroy any Faith, but to confirm each in his own Faith, so that the Christian becomes a better Christian, the Muslim a better Muslim and a Hindu a better Hindu. ”
“ I have come to light the lamp of Love in your hearts, to see that it shines day by day with added luster. I have not come on behalf of any exclusive religion. I have not come on a mission of publicity for a sect or creed or cause, nor have I come to collect followers for a doctrine. I have no plan to attract disciples or devotees into my fold or any fold. I have come to tell you of this unitary faith, this spiritual principle, this path of Love, this virtue of Love, this duty of Love, this obligation of Love. ”

Sai Organization

The main objective of the International Sai Organization is to help mankind recognize the divinity that is inherent within.
The USA Sai Organization grew out of the desire of Sai devotees in the United States to join together to study and practice the teachings of Sathya Sai Baba.
The Sathya Sai Baba Central Council of the United States of America, the governing body of the Organization, was formed with the approval of Sathya Sai Baba in 1975.
For more information on the International Sai Organization and USA Sai Organization, please visit their official web sites.

Thought for the day

“ All that I can tell you about the spiritual disciplines have been told often before; the human capacity, nature, and talents are all ancient possessions and so the advice regarding how to use them is also ancient. The only new thing is the directions in which these talents are wasted, and the way one is playing false to one’s own nature. Man is essentially an animal, endowed with viveka (Discrimination). That is why one is not content with the satisfaction of mere animal needs. One feels some void, some deep discontent and some unslaked thirst, for man is a child of Immortality and so feels that death is not and should not be the end. This viveka urges man to discover answers to the problems that haunt him: "Where did I come from, whither am I journeying, which is the journey's end?" To find answers to these questions, the intellect (buddhi) has to be kept sharp and clear. ”

Devotional Programme

he Sathya Sai Baba Center of Manhattan hosts weekly devotional programs every Thursday from 6:30 PM - 8:15 PM at the Madison Avenue Baptist Church, located on 30 East 31st Street.
Weekly devotional meetings feature devotional singing, presentations, study circles, chanting, prayer, and meditation. It is common for our meetings to be themed - common examples being: guest speaker night, study circle night, video night and young adult night.
In addition to weekly devotional programs, our center organizes special programs to celebrate dates carrying special spiritual significance. Some examples are: the festival of Maha Shivaratri and Sathya Sai Baba's birthday. These special programs also feature a mix of aspects found in regular meetings.
Devotional singing features spiritual songs in a variety of language - we have had and continue to have songs sung in languages such as English, Hindi, Japanese, Spanish, Sanskrit and Tamil. Deities and saints of all the major religions of the world are also honored in these songs. The names of God in all languages and traditions are sung in the spirit of unity of faiths.
For meetings featuring study circles, a common topic is selected and discussed in a round table approach. The purpose of a study circle is to help members deepen their understanding of Sathya Sai Baba's teachings and to strengthen their personal practice.
We continue to invite guest speakers from the Sai family to present at the Sai center in the spirit of learning from each other on the road to self-transformation.
Please feel free to talk with our Devotion Coordinator, or any of the officers at the center for more information.

“Swami Says ...”

We can describe devotion as the promotion of a sacred mind in a selfless manner, in the thought of God. The path of devotion will take along your mind, body and action toward God. As the river flows into the ocean, the river of your life should flow into the ocean of God. Human nature should have this as the sacred objective. Truly, having attained human birth, if we are unable to take ourselves toward God, it is useless attaining this birth. Devotional singing (bhajan) must become an unbroken stream of bliss on your tongues and in your hearts; it must confer on you the uninterrupted awareness of soham, of the unity of I and He.
- Sathya Sai Baba

Bal Vikas (now called Sai Spiritual Education) is the primary basis of the great movement to restore right action (dharma) in the world.
-         Sathya Sai Baba, Vol. 10, P .163

Young men and women, the future citizens of the world! The future of the country depends on the skill and the sincerity of the youth. Therefore, the necessary enthusiasm and encouragement must be generated among the youth. All my hopes are based on the students, the youth. They are very dear to me. The future of the world, good or bad depends on your conduct. The country will be safe, secure, peaceful and prosperous only when your conduct is good. What the world needs today is not affluence and material comforts, but men and women of noble character. The country is bound to disintegrate if the behavior of the young men and women is not on the right lines.
- Sathya Sai Baba

Young Adults

Our Center hosts Young Adult monthly meetings outside of the weekly Devotional Programs. In these meetings, Young Adults take part in Devotional Singing, Study Circles and other Spiritual Disciplines.
The Young Adult programs were established to encourage young adults to lead purposeful lives by learning and practicing spiritual values as defined and established by the life, message, and works of Sathya Sai Baba. Young Adult programs are intended to enhance, not interfere with, harmony and understanding in family relationships and within the Sai Organization. The programs provide forums for Young Adults of like mind to meet and to discuss issues in leading spiritual lives in today's world.
Young Adult meetings and programs include educational and devotional activities, and place a strong emphasis on selfless service. Discipline, modest attire and the separate seating of the young men and young women characterize the meetings, being for the pursuit of spiritual purposes.
The Sathya Sai Young Adult Program was established to address some of the unique needs of devotees between the ages of 18 and 35. As it is not separate from the regular Sri Sathya Sai Organization, Young Adults are expected to participate in Center activities as well as in the Young Adult Program. As such, there is usually one Thursday every month where the Young Adults organize and present the weekly Devotional Program at the Sathya Sai Baba Center of Manhattan.
The Young Adults are currently following a National Spiritual Discipline Program. More details on this can be found at the Sai Young Adult USA website.
For more information on the Sai Organization's Young Adult program please visit the International Sai Young Adult website.
Please feel free to talk with our Young Adult Representatives, or any of the officers at the center for more information.

Education

The Sathya Sai Education Program had its beginning in India in 1969, with Bal Vikas classes. Bal Vikas means the blossoming of the child. The program was started by Sathya Sai Baba to provide spiritual education for the children of Sai devotees. Outside of India, the program is now known as Sai Spiritual Education, (SSE), with classes conducted in over 90 countries, as part of the program offered at Sai Baba Centers worldwide.
SSE classes teach the life application of Sai Baba's universal message. They give children an understanding and respect for the unity of the world's major religions. The classes nurture in children the innate human values of love, truth, peace, right action and non-violence. SSE classes are composed of stories, songs, lessons and activities designed for the children of Sai devotees, ages 6 – 18.
At the Sai Baba Center of Manhattan, SSE classes began in 1982 and continued for about 15 years. There are center members who have completed the SSE training and are available to teach classes on a weekly basis. If there are children in your family between the ages of 6 and 18, please speak with the Education Coordinator or one of the center officers for more information about enrollment in the classes. As always, there is never a cost.
Sathya Sai Education in Human Values (SSEHV) for children also teaches Sathya Sai Baba's universal message and the unity of all the world's religions. However, SSEHV classes are designed for the public in community settings.
