spiritual well being of its members
Dear Friends:
Jai Sri
Krishna/Namaskaar
We are coming to the
end of the calendar year and next week we will usher in our New Year by
celebrating Diwali (Festival of Lights). On Behalf of Hindu Bhavan I want
to wish each of you and your families, the very best in the coming year.
I need to
communicate an important piece of information that will impact our governing
body. The Hindu Bhavan Board of Directors and Trustees met this last weekend
for a ‘called meeting’ to review our election process for Directors and for
Trustees. We wish to inform our congregation that we will need to defer the
election of new directors and Trustees to the next year and elections will take
place at about the same time next year. The vote to do so was unanimous. This
is necessitated due to an inherent conflict in our current Bylaws. In order for
a person to be eligible, you have to be a member in good standing for three
years. You can be a member by submitting an application and paying annual dues
of $151/- . The current Board of Directors and Trustees have been in place for
two and half years (This group was voted in and was part of a larger group that
had worked tirelessly and diligently for the preceding many years). After a
long discussion with our Attorney Mr. Robert Ray, it is deemed necessary to
amend some of the language in our Bylaws and this will provide greater clarity
to the process in the future. If you are not a member you cannot be eligible
to run for the leadership. While I am certain the above mentioned issue will
raise some questions, I do honestly believe it is being done with the best
interest of the Hindu Bhavan in mind. It is my sincere hope that you will agree
and this will be put to vote at the gathering of the congregation on Annakut
day on November 17, 2012 (Saturday).
I encourage you to become
a member by contributing $151/- (per family per year). Any amount paid above
the minimum will suffice in being eligible to waive the fee. It does require
that you submit a membership application at least once and this can be
maintained on file and updated each year. Please note that contributions made
for other events such as Ganeshotsav, Brahmotsav or other cultural events are
not considered as payment towards the membership dues. Also note, that
instead of the minimum, we are requesting you pledge 120/- per month or $1500/-
per year which will go a long way in covering our expenses, priest’s salary and
mortgage. The temple can only survive if each family provides the critical
support that is necessary. If you have not paid your dues for 2012 there is
still ample time to do so by mailing a check. For accounting purposes and dues,
our calendar year runs January 1- Dec 31. For those of you that have already
pledged – please send in your contributions at the earliest, such that these
can be accounted for, in the calendar year 2012. We will collect dues for 2013
on the Annakut day at the temple.
A new set of
Bylaws will be available for review and adoption on Annakut day – Nov 17, 2012.
We are in the
process of finalizing the details of a Picnic shade/eating area and urge you to
contribute towards this project. We want to thank the Komandur family and
especially Abhishek Komandur – candidate for the Eagle Scout award for
completing his project at the temple. The playground is ready for use. All
families are advised that the playground should be used with parental
supervision only. Children below 10 years of age should not access the playground
without the parent providing supervision on site.
Please keep the
temple premises clean, no shoes are permitted in the temple hall, the sanctum,
the kitchen or any of the classrooms. Please maintain silence during the prayer
services. We look forward to seeing each one of you at the temple and we wish
you all a very happy Diwali and a prosperous New Year.
We wish to thank all
our devotees, visitors, volunteers, contributors and supporters that have made
it possible for us to continue to provide the religious and other services
through the Hindu Bhavan. We look forward to continued service to our temple
community.
Jai Sri Krishna
Sincerely
Board of Directors and
Board of Trustees – Hindu Bhavan
