Gita Jayanti – Advent of Srimad Bhagavad Gita

Please join us for this years Gita Jayanti festival.

This is the anniversary day commemorating the day that Srimad Bhagavad Gita was spoken by Lord Sri Krishna to His dear devotee Arjuna.

Starting at 9:30am

Groups of devotees will be reciting the entire texts of Bhagavad Gita As It Is.
There will also be a Bhagavad Gita quiz, followed by Arati, and Prasad.

Congregation Groups

The members of the Auckland Hare Krishna temple congregation meet on a weekly basis at various locations across Auckland. Devotees gather to discuss the philosophy and practise of Krishna consciousness.

n Service to the Spiritual Master

Srila Prabhupada was instructed by his spiritual master, Om Visnupada Sri Srimad Srila Bhaktisiddanta Saraswati Thakura, to write, print, and distribute books on the science of Krishna consciousness in the english language and spread the teachings all over the world. At the age of 70 years, in 1965, Srila Prabhupada travelled from Vrindavan India to the U.S.A with around USD$40 and suitcase of his books to fullfil his spiritual masters instruction.
From the very beginning of his missionary activities in the west Srila Prabhupada encouraged his followers to assist him in fulfilling his spiritual masters order. Srila Prabhupada’s books (over 60 volumes) are now translated in over 50 languages and are distributed all over the world by his followers. Everyone is invited to take part in this wonderful service which is so pleasing to Srila Prabhupada.

THE GOSHALA

New Varshana, the land at the Auckland Hare Krishna temple, is currently the home of a herd of over 12 cows who provide milk to the temple. The protected cows are looked after with the greatest care for the entire life.

The Hare Krishna School

The Hare Krishna School is a State Integrated Primary School. We teach the full New Zealand curriculum from Years 1 to 8 (ages 5-13). The special character of the Hare Krishna School is reflected throughout the curriculum, the culture and ethos of the school.

The Loft Yoga Lounge

At The Loft Yoga Lounge offer a range of yoga classes including hatha and astanga yoga for physical exercise, kirtan yoga for spiritual rejuvenation, and discussions on the science of yoga as presented in the Bhagavad Gita.

Venue

The Krishna Temple and farm is located in between the Haupai Golf Course and the upper reaches of Waitemata Harbour. Just twenty minutes drive from Auckland’s central business district, this picturesque one hundred acre property is nestled amongst orchards, farms, and multi-million dollar mansions on the scenic Riverhead-Coatesville highway.
TEMPLE & FARM
As the centrepiece of the farm, the remarkable Sri Sri Radha-Giridhari Temple complex has been captivating visitors ever since it opened in 2004. The temple is at every step a wonderful spiritual experience, from its ornate altar, to its finely crafted doors, large oil paintings, and wonderful Orissan stained-glass windows. Surrounding the temple, the farm maintains many interesting animals, native bush, fruit trees, ponds, numerous living quarters, and even a primary school.

Catering

All over the world the food made at Hare Krishna temples is famous for its distinctive and uplifting taste. From simple soul food to extravagant festival menus, Hare Krishna temples and restaurants have been providing food to countless millions for over 40 years.
A common question is what gives this food its exceptional taste and leaves the patron feeling “high”. Most find it difficult to put their finger on why it tastes so good. The answer to this query is that this food is “spiritual food”.
SPIRITUAL FOOD
To make this food spiritual, firstly our ingredients are always pure and fresh; we do not use readymade, reused, or highly processed ingredients in our cooking. Secondly, the atmosphere of the temple kitchen is quite unlike any commercial kitchen, as our cooks have a mindset of service to the deities. Finally, the food preparations are offered to the presiding deities, thus sanctifying it.
EXPERT COOKS
We have expert cooks with many years of experience in preparing a variety of world foods. If you have experienced a Hare Krishna festival, then you are sure to be amazed at the sheer variety of preparations they are able to create, ranging from various regional Indian preparations, through to continental, and diverse Asian flavours.

GOVINDA’S RESTAURANT

Govinda’s is a Vegetarian & Vegan restaurant that offers an international cuisine in a unique K’Road atmosphere. The food is enjoyed by vegetarians, vegans and non-vegetarians alike due to the quality and method of preparation, and the variety and richness of the menu.
