Shri
Nand Shiv Durga Mandir is a non-profit Hindu Temple that has served Southern
California for over 20 years. We are open 7 days a week in the heart of East
Los Angeles.
Savitri Devi Arora Memorial Award
About the Award
The goal of the award is to promote the awareness and practice of devoted community service among youth at our temples. This scholarship has been instituted in memory of the Late Savitri Devi Arora, who left for her heavenly abode on August 26th, 2008 in Ludhiana, India. Like every Indian mother, she supported her children to get finest education and achieve their best in academics. It was always her aspiration to award and encourage those who are excelling in academics. The award is open to students in Southern California who are enrolled in 9th, 10th, or 11th grade at the time of applying.
The award is presented every year on Shiv Ratri Day (tentatively March 10, 2012) at Shri Nand Shiv Durga Mandir.
The winner receives a brand new laptop computer, $500 cash, and a Certificate.

All applicants must be from Southern
California
·
Must be enrolled in 9th, 10th, or 11th at
the time of the application due date.
·
Must fulfill requirements in ALL FIVE
of the following categories:
o
Cumulative Unweighted GPA of the last
two school years (50%)
o
Score on Standardized Test: SAT, STAR,
or similar test (10%)
o
Extra-curricular Activities (10%)
o
Volunteer/Community Service Hours (10%)
o
Essay Test (300 words) on knowledge of
Hindu religion/temples (20%)

One letter of recommendation from an
academic reference (Teacher, Counselor, etc.)

All applicants must be present on Shiv

The winner MUST be present to receive the award

**Note: Winner may not re-apply for the
award in any subsquent year
