The Ashrams of Shanti Mandir
Daily activities take place at set times, including Vedic rituals, chanting, and meditation at sunrise (before breakfast), near noon (before lunch), and at sunset (before dinner). The remaining time is filled with the offering of service helpful for running the ashram, study, physical exercise, and personal tasks. This balance of activity is perfect for immersion in spiritual life.
People are welcome to reside in any of the ashrams for as short or long a period as they choose. A contribution is requested for enjoying the traditional Indian vegetarian food and accommodations.
Visitors are requested to contact ashrams before arriving so appropriate arrangements can be made.
The ashram is a place of inner freedom. It belongs to all – be they pious, scholarly, foolish or spiritually inclined. All come with the hope of overcoming the consequences of their past deeds and deriving positive benefits. The whole purpose of an ashram is to cleanse the mind of the impurities which creep into it with worldly pursuits and to fill it with peace.
Baba Muktananda
An ashram is not a mere brick and mortar structure, but a manifestation of the divine power of god where devotees come to deeply immerse themselves in their sadhana.

Meditation Intensives
The Meditation Intensive was originally
created by Swami Muktananda as a vehicle to transmit Shakipat, whereby the
seekers own dormant spiritual energy called Kundalini, was awakened. This
awakening begins a process of inner purification and unfolding, that over time,
brings a seeker to the realization of his own Divinity. Gurudev Nityananda
continues in the footsteps of his Guru, by offering this divine spiritual
initiation through Meditation Intensives today.

The next courses in Magod, Gujarat are soon to be scheduled. The courses on offer facilitate a comprehensive, in depth exploration of the foundational knowledge and understanding of the yogic traditions and the essential range of practices for living yoga as a path.
The level 1 & 2 courses meet the needs of students who want to receive certification to teach Hatha Yoga and/or serious students of the tradition seeking to deepen both experience and understanding of Yoga philosophy, practice and living application.
Shanti Darshanam courses further the initiative established by Mahamandaleshwar Swami Nityananda to preserve and contribute to the cultural and scriptural wealth of India. These internationally accredited courses are facilitated by qualified teachers and are conducted while Swamiji is in residence at the ashram.

Mahamandaleshwar Swami Nityananda
Mahamandaleshwar
Swami Nityananda is from a lineage of traditional spiritual teachers in India.
While carrying the traditional teachings, he makes spirituality a practical
part of modern daily reality, guided by the prayer "May all beings live in
peace and contentment".
Born in Mumbai, India in 1962, Swami Nityananda was raised from birth in an environment of yoga and meditation. His parents were devotees of the famous ascetic avadhut Bhagavan Nityananda, and then became disciples of his successor, the renowned Shaktipat Guru, Baba Muktananda.
Swami Nityananda was trained from childhood by Baba Muktananda and initiated into the mysterious path of the Siddha Gurus. He learned the various yogic practices, including meditation and Sanskrit chanting, and studied the philosophies of Vedanta and Kashmir Shaivism.
He was initiated into the Saraswati order of monks in 1980 at 18 years of age and was given the name Swami Nityananda by Baba Muktananda. In 1981, Baba Muktananda declared Swami Nityananda would succeed him to carry on the lineage.
In 1987, Swami Nityananda founded Shanti Mandir as a vehicle for continuing his Guru's work and subsequently established the three ashrams. He travels between the ashrams each year, sharing the spiritual practices in which he has been trained and passing on the knowledge.
In 1995, at the age of 32, at a traditional ceremony in Haridwar, India, the acharyas and saints of the Dashnam tradition installed him as a Mahamandaleshwar of the Mahanirvani Akhara. He is the youngest recipient since this spiritual title was established by Adi Shankaracharya in the 8th century.
Currently Swami Nityananda, also known as Gurudev, spends his time between the Shanti Mandir ashrams in Gujarat, India and New York, USA.
His Shanti Mandir ashrams and community support a number of community projects in India:
Shri Muktananda Sanskrit Mahavidyalaya, a free Sanskrit school that provides a rounded and authentic exposure to Vedic teachings;
Shanti Arogya Mandir, a mobile clinic that services the medical needs of the villages around the ashram in Magod; Shanti Mandir Eye Camps, biannual eye camps held in the Haridwar region;
and Shanti Hastkala , a project that helps the rural poor learn handicraft skills and provides them with work opportunities.
