ISKCON of Silicon Valley (ISV) extends a warm welcome to you, your family and friends on the auspicious occasion of Sri Krsna Janmashtami on Wednesday, August 28th 2013.
The festival begins at 4.30 am with Mangala Arati and darshan is open from 7.30 am until midnight. There are special programs in the evening with lots of kirtans, Sri Krsna Abhishek, Discourses, Jhulan seva, Arati  etc. Delicious prasadam will be served.
There are many opportunities for you to offer your service to Their Lordships through our Maha Kalash Abhishek and Sponsorship programs.  Please find the details below.
The auspicious day of the appearance of Lord Krishna is celebrated all over the world as Sri Krishna Janmashtami. It is celebrated on the eighth day of the Krishna Paksha (waning moon) of the month of Shraavan. Krishna, who is the Supreme Personality of Godhead, appeared in Mathura as son of Vasudeva and Devaki.
“As stated in the Bhagavad-gita, the Lord says that His appearance, birth, and activities, are all transcendental, and one who understands them factually becomes immediately eligible to be transferred to the spiritual world. “ – Chapter 3: Birth of Lord Krishna,Krishna Book by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.
Lord Krishna Himself in Bhagavad gita, Chapter 4 text 8 describes the reason of His appearance as follows:

paritranaya sadhunam
vinsaya ca duskrtam
darma-samsthapanrthaya
sambhavami yuge yuge
“To deliver the pious and annihilate the miscreants, as well also restablish the principles of religion, I Myself appear millennium after millennium.”

Lord Sri Krishna extols the knowledge contained in the Bhagavad Gita as follows:
rāja-vidyā rāja-guhya
pavitram idam uttamam
pratyak
āvagama dharmya
su-sukha
kartum avyayam
This knowledge is the king of education, the most secret of all secrets. It is the purest knowledge, and because it gives direct perception of the self by realization, it is the perfection of religion. It is everlasting, and it is joyfully performed. (Bhagavad Gita 9.2)
In order to help everyone benefit from the sublime knowledge contained in the Bhagavad Gita and other Vedic literatures, ISKCON of Silicon Valley conducts various classes on Bhakti Yoga throughout the Bay Area to cater to the interests of a wide variety of practitioners. Most of these classes are offered free-of-charge and will be followed by a sumptuous vegetarian meal consisting of sanctified food (prasad). Here is our current list of classes. Bhagavad-gita As It Is Chapter a Day (CHAD)

CHAD is a worldwide alliance of devotees who chant at least one chapter of Bhagavad-gita As It Is every day.
“And I declare that he who studies this sacred conversation of ours worships Me by his intelligence.”— (B.G. 18.70)
Please join us!
*Chanting at least one chapter means chanting all the Sanskrit slokas within one chapter; or chanting all the English in an entire chapter; or chanting both the Sanskrit and English in within one chapter.

Benefits of joining CHAD

You’ll:
1.  Feel impetus to chant Bhagavad-gita everyday knowing that others are doing it with you.
2.  Gain superior strength and knowledge in devotional service by reciting and hearing the divine conversation between Krsna and Arjuna.
3.  Be cleared of offences you’ve committed in worshiping the Deity.
4.  Automatically learn multiple Bhagavad-gita verses through repetition. (“Repetition is the mother of learning.”)
5.  Develop skill in citing important slokas as evidence from Bhagavad-gita.
6.  Awaken a sweet relationship with Krsna Who reveals Himself to those who daily chant the Bhagavad-gita.
