Youth Group

Namashkar
The youths of Vishnu Mandir are working diligently to make a strong and vibrant organization and to date this has been a challenging exercise. Even with a successful 2013 Youth conference (www.hyc2013.ca) and a food drive in 2012 the organization has not fully succeeded in attracting all the youths of the Mandir
As its primary goals the youth group will:
1.  Educate Hindus, especially those between the ages of 18 - 34, and the community at large about Hindu history, culture, and philosophy; and
2.  Promote the Hindu value of 'Seva' (selfless service to others) among young Hindus, professionals, and students in the greater community focus on education and serving the Mandir and the Hindu Community as well as Canada and to aspire and become the new leaders of tomorrow
To that end they will need some assistance and guidance and that is why we have put a team together to make their plans and ideas successful. Together we hope we will bring youths from all different communities to aspire to be Good Canadian Hindus.
Every fall we will have a food drive and we will be joining other organizations to feed the homeless and assist in the collection of winter clothing for the less fortunate
In 2014 we will again have a youth conference open to the pubic where will bring speakers and experts to discuss topics of youth interest and relevance.
We hope to encourage every youth to develop his or her skills and to maintain the tradition of keeping ourselves as successful enterprising individuals who will continue to be an asset to Canada and to Sanatan Dharma. As members and supporters of Vishnu Mandir we ask that you encourage the young minds to become members of youth group. For more info on the youth group please send your emails to youth@vishnumandir.com and or dwarkapersaud@rogers.com

Laxmi Sabha

Vishnu Mandir’s Lakshmi Sabha is a dynamic group of women united to work towards the enrichment of women, children and seniors in the South Asian community. In many different capacities, it has existed since the Temple’s inception in 1977. At the moment there are 4 Team Leaders- Shama Singh, Omo Persaud, Leila Singh & Rani Sethi. Jayanti Ramkumar is Secretary & Rohini Sanaichar is the Treasurer.
The Lakshmi Sabha was established to work towards the betterment of Women, Seniors & Children in the South Asian Community. We run a month long Summer Camp for the children in our Community.
This group is currently headed by 5 Team Leaders together with a number of very dedicated women of the Temple. The group has grown in strength and numbers over the past years and currently has 30 active members.
One of the team leaders heads the annual Summer Camp with the assistance of the Temple’s youths, other members in the Lakshmi Sabha and some Temple devotees. The Camp initially started as a 2 week program and now runs throughout the whole month of July. The Lakshmi Sabha also runs an Annual March Break Camp which only started in 2006.
Another of the team leaders heads the Seniors Group. This group meets on a bi-monthly basis to socialize with other seniors & have a fun afternoon. In the Summer time they go on picnics, lunch at their favorite restaurants & generally have a nice time together.
In addition, the Group conducts regular Seminars on various Medical and Health issues for example diabetes, heart issues, arthritis, breast cancer. Medical specialists in their respective fields are invited to conduct these Seminars offering advice, support and preventative information to all attendees.
Finally, The Lakshmi Sabha is actively involved in all aspects of the Temple’s programs and Festivals from the planning stages to the actual implementation. Such events include Holi celebrations, Divali Dinner and seniors’ Day. The group is always willing, and readily available to assist in any capacity at the Temple.
The Lakshmi Sabha is actively involved in all aspects of the Temple's Programmes including Holi, Diwali, Seniors Day and all other Religious events. We are involved in the actual planning to the final implementation of all such events.
The Lakshmi Sabha sponsors weekend & day trips for seniors & other Temple devotees.
Devotees visit other Temples in USA & Canadian cities. These trips also include other fun activities which are enjoyed by all.
The Lakshmi Sabha is truly dedicated in serving our community and Temple. With the hard work and dedication the group displays, it will certainly continue to grow and prosper for the well-being of the Vishnu Mandir.

Introduction to Voice of the Vedas

Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide a place for spiritual, social and educational development at all phases of one’s life, from early childhood education, youth guidance, spiritual nurturing  of families to seniors care. We will be a key voice of Sanatan Dharna to propagate a proper understanding of our religious scriptures and culture norms, along with the teaching of Hinduism in educational institutions.

Voice of the Vedas Cultural Sabha Inc.was founded in 1977 and incorporated in 1979. The Vishnu Mandir started as a little house in 1981 by a few supporters from Guyana and Trinidad. By March of 1984, the small version of the Vishnu Temple was completed. At the Temple site, we used to have our Diwali Melas where over 15 thousand people attended.
Today, we have expanded our Temple to about 30,000 square feet. We are now embarking on a further addition to have a small Museum of Hinduism so that when visitors come to the Temple, they can understand a little about our Dharma.
When we came to Canada, there were no Temples and we used to worship in school auditoriums. We then decided that we must preserve our dignity, heritage and Dharma and as such, we embarked on the building of the first architecturally structured Hindu Temple in Canada.

Volunteers

Vishnu Mandir provides religious and cultural inputs into the lives of many children and youth, and several youth have grown up in the Mandir. As many of these youths are now able to give back to the Mandir and positively contribute to the community at large, we aim to become a well known group of volunteers which provides service and support to those who need it.
Starting from Vishnu Mandir, where our presence will be the strongest, we will work outwards to assist local organizations such as food banks and shelters. By doing so we will raise public awareness of the activities of the Mandir, and positively represent Vishnu Mandir and Hinduism. We will be able to provide appropriate documentation for the completion of community service hours.
