MPORTANCE :
SAKTI (female deity) worship is becoming more popular everywhere. Our scriptures state that SAKTI is the main form of God in the era of Kali Yuga. SAKTI means energy. Hindus symbolize energy as female, and activation of energy as male. That is why the main form of Hindu idol is LINGA which has male and female body parts within it. The ARTHA- NAREESWARA, another form of idol, also has Lord Shiva and Goddess Sakti equally placed within it.

Sridurka is also a form of Sakti (Goddess of universal energy) and worshipped as the main Deity in this temple

SIGNIFICANCE: Amidst of all Hindu Temples in Canada, Thurkeswaram has a unique and a very special religious feature. One and only temple in North America which is consecrated with highest ranked consecration rituals for 108 days and 33 Homas, performed by 50 priests from 6 countries. Ninety million mantras were chanted continuously for 3 years, first time in North America. In Hinduism, a Temple becomes energized by Rituals and Mantra.

Raja Gopuram means Royal entrance tower of the temple. It is a spiritually energized structure. Entering through the Raja Gopuram, scans the human body and equip it with proper channels to absorb the spiritual energy inside the temple. It is believed that just having a glimpse of the Raja Gopuram, even from far off, is equivalent to coming to the temple and offering prayers to the deities in the temple.

To be formed by the tradition of sages and Hindu saints who have uttered the way of life throughout the centuries. Our rituals of worship reflect practices of the historic Hindu Temples in India. We strictly observe these Vedic and Agamic elements in order to strengthen our lives of worship.

To perform all kinds of Rituals, Havans, Yagas and recital of mantras prescribed in our scriptures.

To propagate the teachings of Hinduism by Pooja, Prasangam (discourses) and Bhajan and to ensure that the youths of today are well equipped to propel Hinduism into the future.

BACKGROUND

A short description  :
Sridurka Hindu Temple (also known as Thurkeswaram) is  the ultimate dream of Hindus  in Toronto. The Temple is comprised of a diverse group of people with different backgrounds. It serves to the Hindus of north Indian tradition, Hindus of south Indian tradition, Hindus of Srilankan tradition, Hindus of Malaysia / Singapore tradition and Hindus of west Indian tradition. It has been described as a unique congregation and there is a great feeling of family when devotees gather. The Temple has grown to the point of being physically crowded in the current facilities. More than 300,000 Hindus in Toronto and suburban areas use this Temple as their worship place.

Rituals & Benifits

It is believed that prayers  and  offerings to the invocated divinities in the ‘sacred fire’ brings prosperity to the nation.  In Hinduism, this ritual is called  Homam. It is also known as Havan / Yaga / Jagnam.  The length and procedure of a homam depends on the purpose to which it is performed. Many different types of homams  are cited in Hindu scriptures.

Maha Chandi Homam is the  most mystical and cognitively powerful.  It is performed by qualified priests for  the benefit of individuals, the state or all sentient beings in general. The consecrated fire and invocated divinities are believed to have a powerful cleansing effect on the devotees  -  spiritually and psychologically.

The second Maha Kumbabisekam ( Reconsecration Ceremony) of Thurkeswaram is scheduled for Summer 2014. Details of events and poojas will be available soon.
